Police Blame Teen for Fatal Crash



The police of Cook County are blaming a teenager for not yielding which caused a fatal crash with a police car. The crash happened when the teen failed to yield and was struck by an unmarked squad car.

A dead teenager’s mother expressed outrage Tuesday after Cook County police blamed her son, not Evergreen Park police, for the October crash that resulted in his death.

The sheriff’s investigation report says Brian Dewitt, 18, of Chicago’s Morgan Park community, failed to yield while making a left-hand turn from Central Park Avenue onto 95th Street before the Oct. 5 crash with an unmarked squad car that left Dewitt’s car crumpled.

The Evergreen Park officer, who has not been publicly identified, was not seriously injured in the crash. A passenger in Dewitt’s vehicle was critically injured but was released from the hospital more than six weeks ago.

The report did not address whether the squad car’s emergency lights or siren had been activated but said no criminal charges will be filed stemming from the crash.

Bus Crash Injures 11



In Florida, a collision involving a car and a bus were involved in an accident that injured 11 people. The collision occurred during rush hour, and the injuries range from minor to serious.

Broward County, FL—A rush hour collision Monday morning, Nov. 1 resulted in injuries ranging from minor to serious. The accident, which involved a Broward County Transit (BCT) bus and car, occurred at the intersection of Powerline Road and Oakland Park Boulevard around 7:30 a.m., as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.

According to information provided, a 39-year-old woman was driving her Chevrolet car when she rear-ended the BCT bus. “There were no skid marks,” said Wilton Manors Police Sgt. Charles Howard, noting that the driver of the car did not appear to apply the brakes prior to impact.
